Music journalist David Hepworth described the song as “A tired, hollow effort struggling between weary attempts at rabble-rousing and blush-making pseudo-Springsteen ‘street’ songs that reek of desperation and contract fulfilling. As empty self-satisfied a record as anything they supposedly set out to replace”. And yet became quite the iconic tune.

A bit interesting this one – the tune should be Let’s Do Rock Steady … there is a single with the miss print of ‘People’ instead of ‘Let’s’ – odd then that this sheet music should have the miss print. Maybe I’m missing something.

It’s been suggested that the lyrics are suggestive … I would suggest that they are not suggestive but blatantly obvious.

Keith Richards wrote “Satisfaction” in his sleep and recorded a rough version of the riff on a Philips cassette player. He said when he listened to the recording in the morning, there was about two minutes of acoustic guitar before you could hear him drop the pick and “then me snoring for the next forty minutes” ….. when I read that on Wiki I thought it said “snorting for the next forty minutes” … reasonable mistake methinks.

“Tom Hark” is an instrumental kwela song written by Rupert Bopape (1925–2012), a South African musician, singer, and songwriter. The Piranhas released their version in 1980.

“Baby Love” was included on the soundtrack to the 1975 feature film Cooley High …. no, me neither.

Shaw was sufficiently confident in the hit potential of the buoyant “Long Live Love” as to turn down the chance to record “It’s Not Unusual”, allowing the song to be given to Tom Jones and become his first hit … well well.

The sun is shining and I feel pretty bad.

Joe Tex had a fascinating life including a feud with James Brown – according to Wiki ‘ their feud escalated when Tex and Brown performed a concert in Macon, Georgia. Tex, who opened the show, imitated Brown by appearing in a torn, tattered cape and rolling around on the floor screaming, “Please—somebody help get me out of this cape!” Brown, already angry with Tex over the song “You Keep Her”, left the club and returned with guns. Tex had left the club before the shooting had commenced ‘.

Cover of the 1963 tune – released by James Purify and his cousin Bobby Dickey … I suppose they thought James and Bobby Purify sounded better than Purify and Dickey which sounds like an avant garde architectural firm.

I believe that Princess Anne has a large Black Sabbath tattoo on her buttocks …. I made that up. This has two hole punches that, when I frame it, I shall endeavour to disguise. 18 x 14 inch frame.

According to that wellspring of all knowledge Wiki, the original single was banned by the BBC because of the controversial cover (an alternative cover was released in some places). I nearly typed Picture Thus – a more classical version. Of the lyrics, Harry joked, “I was so excited that in ‘Picture This’ I rhymed ‘solid’ with ‘wallet.’ I thought, ‘Wow! This tune marked a distinct turning point for Small Faces’ career, being their first single to deliberately venture into psychedelia, though they’d previously done that on a few album tracks for Decca. The song’s subject regarding a drug dealer somehow bypassed the BBC censors, who did not ban it … years later they also fail to spot ‘eezer Goode. 18 x 14 inch frame. Bowie’s cover of the Velvet Underground tune featured in the Ziggy film. Classic Small Faces track – It was originally intended to be an album track by the band but was released as a single by manager Don Arden without their knowledge or consent. It was to signal the end of the band’s relationship with both Arden and Decca. I always preferred the Decca stuff but that’s just me. 18 x 14 inch frame. The song was written in 1958 by Sonny Curtis, and recorded in 1959 when he joined the Crickets, taking the place of the late Buddy Holly on guitar. The Clash’s version first appeared on the EP The Cost of Living in May 1979 in the UK and then later in 1979 was made part of the American edition of the Clash’s eponymous album. 18 x 14 inch frame. Vintage sheet music for this 1977 tune from The Adverts. The song was written from the point of view of a patient who has just undergone an eye transplant and discovers that he has received the eyes of the executed double murderer Gary Gilmore. Gilmore had requested that his eyes be donated to science after his execution as “they’d probably be the only body part usable”. After Gilmore’s execution, several of his body parts were removed for possible use as transplants or for study. His corneas were used for transplants. 18 x 14 Frame. The brilliant Bobbie Gentry … not Nobbie as I almost put before realising my error – not sure what kind of stuff Nobbie Gentry would release but I’d certainly give it a listen. But no, this is the magnificent Bobbie and her iconic song Ode To Billie Joe – there have been lots of theories as to what was thrown off the Tallahatchie Bridge but I don’t think she ever confirmed or denied any … it’s a mystery wrapped inside an enigma tucked into the armpit of a puzzle. Great image of Thelma. First charting as a hit for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass in 1975, “Don’t Leave Me This Way” was later a huge disco hit for Motown artist Thelma Houston in 1977. The song was also a major hit for British group the Communards in 1986. Great gift for someone that left you that way … although why you would give this fantastic item to someone who left you .. maybe they left you in a good way … who knows. 20 x 16 inch frame.

Played with all those rock type chaps including, The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, Gary Moore, Robert Plant, Brian May, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake and Powell, and Black Sabbath. Framed sheet music of Ultravox’s classic track, Vienna ….. Oh Vienna …. da dum, da da da dum. The single became Ultravox’s biggest ever hit, released in January 1981 and peaking at Number 2 (kept off the top spot by John Lennon’s “Woman” and then Joe Dolce’s “Shaddap You Face”). Apparently, Midge Ure briefly played with Thin Lizzy … who’d’ve thunk it ? It’s a 20 x 16 inch frame.

Brilliant image of Suzi Q. Original sheet music from 1975 – the single from the album of the same name. Any guesses as to Suzi’s real name …… no ? ………. no-one ? ……. ok I’ll tell you …… Suzi Quatro …. what a great name and it’s all hers. I wonder if she still wears those tight leathers – I hope so …. I hope she’s wearing them when she’s 90 just for old times sake. It’s a 20 x 16 frame.
